The current update will bring:

  • C-Log 3
  • Canon Cinema RAW light addition
  • 1080p @ 120fps
  • Various bug fixes

The update is most likely to be released in February 2021 and the users are elated after the announcement. The exciting news is that the new EOS R5 firmware update is already installed on select cameras and getting tested in beta version. Also, a news source suggested that Canon has planned to add new features to both the Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 within the next 2 years.

Previously, Canon EOS R5’s 8K RAW video recording capabilities stole a lot of attention. Hence, all eyes are now looking forward for the new update. In a recent interview, Canon representative admitted that top-flight video features were included in R5 for marketing reasons.

Currently, the EOS R5 can record 1080p videos at up to 60FPS frame-rate and is limited to shooting in Canon Log 1. The update will shift Canon Log 1 to Log 3, hence boosting the camera up to 14 stops of dynamic range and the increased frame-rate will ensure smooth slow-motion videos.

The EOS R5 is highly viewed as a stills camera. The EOS R5 autofocus system is a huge step forward. The upcoming firmware updates is also reported to fix a few bugs and also add Canon Cinema RAW. The unexciting news is that there is no statement released on the camera’s overheating problems in the past, which is highly expected by the users to be fixed.
