If you are looking for a good alternative to the famous Nandi Hills near Bangalore, I believe a visit to less famous Avalabetta is worth considering. Avalabetta is a Hill, which will require a small doable 2 KM trek offering mesmerizing picturesque view. Don’t forget to pack some Wide angles with you, you will love the scenic view around.
We traveled from Bangalore (near Electronics City), and it took us around 3 hrs to reach our destination, Avalabetta, by Car. Roads are nice, the only concern would be traffic, if you start late. The road trip to Avalabetta will shower you with exquisite scenic view to keep you exhilarated.
Here is a small Vlog by Nutan Singh from our road trip to Avalabetta Hilltop.
If you are coming from Bangalore, you can blindly follow Google Maps, it will not fail you. However, be aware, you may not find any network once you reach there. So finding the route back home may leave you little wandering, if you didn’t pay attention to the route while reaching Avalabetta. Luckily for us, navigation in our car worked as a backup.
Since, Avalabetta is surrounded by plenty of Natural Beauty for one to explore, recommendation would be not to take the same route while exiting from the place. This way you could witness the amazing panoramic view around the Avalabetta Hill.
There is a dedicated parking space for CARs and BIKEs at the Avalabetta foothills. The moment you reach there, you will be welcomed by sweet locals (Kannadigas) selling water bottles and refreshing Nariyal Pani. You may not find much to eat there though, so advisable would be to carry some food along.
To reach the top, one can either follow the concrete road, though vehicles are not allowed, or one can take the steps and little rocky path. We chose to mix both the routes in our trek.
Since, we started late, we could reach there only by around 11 AM, and we had to face the wrath of the scorching SUN. Trekking became quite tough forcing us to take several breaks in between. However, once you start the trek you will be amazed by the view Avalabetta has to offer.
During the trek, you will come across Rock Cliffs, a beautiful Temple and lots of monkeys 😉 You will also find some locals selling water bottles and Cucumber midway of your trek, near the temple.
There is a small water body, which will just take your breath away by it’s shear beauty. The view from there is just amazing. We chose to sit and relax near the water body. Cold breeze will just recharge you enough for the remaining trek.
The next stop, which is the last stop, is the famous “Selfie Point”, though access to it is prohibited now, due to some incidents in the past, but still one can enjoy the astonishing view.
