SanDisk has unveiled the biggest SD card in the world — a prototype card with an outrageous 1 terabyte of memory. The SDXC card is only a prototype at this point, with no details available on price or release date, but it’s still an impressive milestone.  Things have moved fast, though, and compared to the 64MB card, and today with 1TB version that offers 16,384 times more storage, they break their own two year old record of unveiling the then world’s largest 512GB SanDisk Extreme PRO® SDXC UHS-I Memory Card at Photokina 2014.

This card is aimed at the growing number of 4K cameras, 360° cameras for VR and also anticipates the launch of 8K cameras. Well, that may be some way out, but cameras are already moving to 4K @ 60fps, which will eat up even more storage and 6K seems to be on the horizon too.
