1. Nikon D5500: Company’s first DSLR with Touchscreen ($899.95 body only)
Nikon D5500 is an entry level DSLR, a Nikon DX-format digital SLR camera, which replaces D5300, and is the company’s first DSLR to boast the full fledged 3.2 inch LCD touchscreen at the back.
It includes some astounding features like built in Wi-fi, Vari-angle LCD screen with touch operation, 39 Point AF System, HD video capture and a 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor, and the EXPEED 4 image-processing engine. The D5500 features high-speed continuous shooting at up to 5 fps for a maximum of 100 shots (JPEG).
D5500 has a strong monocoque body, which makes it the world’s smallest, lightest, and slimmest digital SLR camera equipped with a vari-angle monitor. And the D5500 will be out in the market by February 2015 in black and red and will cost $899.95 for the body only.
2. New AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR II zoom lens ($349.95)
As quoted by Nikon, “Adoption of a retractable barrel enables a smaller lens possible with the Nikon DX format. A telephoto zoom lens that increases the portability and agility of a camera system.”
It is a telephoto zoom lens compatible with the DX format Digital SLR cameras. It supports the 55-200 mm range of focal lengths and maximum apertures of f/4-5.6. It is a small and very light lens, thanks to the adoption of retractable barrel feature.
The VR function in the lens offers compensation equivalent to approx. 4.0 stop increase in shutter speed and an ED lens element helps the lens in achieving superior optical performance with very little chromatic aberration.
3. AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR ($1,999.95)
As per the Nikon, it is the world’s lightest fixed focal length (prime) telephoto lens with a focal length of 300mm and maximum aperture of f/4, achieved with the adoption of a PF (Phase Fresnel) lens element, a first for NIKKOR lenses.
It is a Prime auto focus telephoto lens having a fixed focal length of 300 mm for Nikon FX-format digital SLR cameras. Being the first Nikkor lens with a PF (Phase Frensel) lens element adopted weighs approx. 545 g lesser than the previous 300 mm full frame prime lens and is 75 mm shorter and the max dia 1 mm smaller.
The VR system is capable of providing 4.5 stops of image stabilization and boasts SPORT VR mode, which enables effective photography of athletes and other subjects that are moving rapidly and unpredictably.
4. New Firmware for Nikon 1 V3 Advanced Camera with Interchangeable Lens
Nikon is working on the development of new firmware for the Nikon 1 V3 Advanced Camera with Interchangeable Lenses. It is scheduled to be released in May this year, which will enable the Nikon 1 V3 to use Nikon’s remote control software, Camera Control Pro 2. Along with the new firmware, Nikon also plans to offer a remote control software development kit (SDK), similar to that available for Nikon digital SLR cameras, in June of this year.
