Do you love taking pictures with your SMARTPHONE, not satisfied with the image Quality? Well the wait is over, Sony has introduced its latest camera sensor designed for smartphones – the EXMOR RS IMX230.

For the very first time, an image plane phase detection autofocus system in a mobile phone has been introduced. And it is none other than Sony, who reveals its sensor with features like 21 effective megapixels, on-chip phase detection AF and 4K video recording for mobile phones.

The sensor will allow Sony smartphone cameras to precisely capture fast-moving objects for both still photos and video, with automatic necessary calculations by the sensor’s internal processing circuitry. With dedicated phase detection autofocus pixels into the screen of the image sensor, it will track the distance to the subject. The sensor supports up to 192 different auto focus points.

Sony’s earlier-introduced HDR Movie feature will also be packed in this chip, this time offered with 4K recording, and can be used in stills shooting for the first time as well.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF THE EXMOR RS IMX230:

  • On chip Phase Detection AF – 192 AF points
  • 4K video recording capability
  • Captures Fast moving Objects for both Still Photos and Videos precisely
  • HDR Movie Features Capability with 4K technology
  • Sensor size – 1/2.4 inch

Expected to be in the market by April 2015.
